IUCN Red List of Ants

The IUCN Red List includes 152 ants, considered at least vulnerable. Most of the species are data deficient, i.e. only little data on their abundance and distribution is known. However, especially the social parasitic life style makes them strong candidates for the Red List.

During the coming years we will try to take on the challenge, to provide for as many species as possible the data to assess their status, or at least a strategy to assess it. Any comments and recommendations are welcome. Please contact Donat Agosti chairperson of the Social Insects Specialist Group, Species Survival Commission, IUCN.
